Research Grant on Massage Therapy and Fibromyalgia!
A research team from the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage and the University of New Brunswick has been awarded a grant of nearly $15,000 from the Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada's Massage Therapy Research Fund. We will be researching the effect of massage therapy on muscle oxygenation in fibromyalgia patients. 15 clients will receive six 30-minute massage treatments, after which Near-Infrared Spectoscopy (NIRS) will be used to non-invasively measure oxygenation and blood volume in targeted muscles.
The research team is:
- Dr. Wayne Albert, Professor and Assistant Dean, University of New Brunswick Faculty of Kinesiology
- Dr. Judah Bunin, MSc, ND, Research Coordinator at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage
- Lisa Ivany, RMT, Co-owner and Instructor at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage

Collaborative Research Projects
The ACTM has teamed up with Dr. Wayne Albert, Associate Professor at the University of New Brunswick whose research at the Human Performance Laboratory is focused on musculoskeletal injuries and health and wellness in the workplace.

Use RESP Funds to Attend ACTM Funds from a Registered Education Savings Plan can be used to pay for tuition at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage, in the same way in which an RESP can be used at a University or College.
